The XL Terrestrials presented Transmigration Of Cinema at the Nepokoreni Grad 2006 festival, which means “Unconquered Town”, a weeklong series of events hosted by the Domachi cultural organiization in Karlovac, an unusual town just an hour southeast of Zagreb, originally built as a star-shaped fortress. There’s a number of empty buildings in the town due in part to work-migration to the capital Zagreb, and a number of them are former military spaces. The festival addresses the themes of reclaiming space for cultural productivity and education, and the Domachi crew is at the heart of this movement. Their social center is a part of a large industrial building just a half kilometer from the old town center, situated on one of Karlovac’s 4 rivers. The facilites provide a media lab, a lounge/library and venue area, and production offices. And one of their many cultural projects includes the publishing of a magazine called PLAN.et , and to give you an idea of some of the topics , the last issue covers Laibach, the Tabor Film Festival, and Allen Ginsburg- Peace Poetry and LSD… i.e. a users guide to pop and sub- cultures, politics, arts&tech, and the essential jamming zones. There’s also the Stanica MIR radio project, which is currently involved in a radio seminar in Zagreb called Radio - Applied GoGo. Unfortunately for the non-Croatian speaking, these valuable resources are not so accessible. Nevertheless the opportunity to interact with the crew and attendees and sharing tales of working the cultural angles has provided fantastic viewpoints on both the challenges and the successes of the region. Tales we’ll try to elaborate on soon.

And reports from MAMA coming soon… a highly engaged audience for our Transmigratory themes.
